The following are examples of the work Meg has undertaken as a consultant (pseudonyms only).

People

1. John spent many years despairing of the low levels of literacy which prevented him from finding work and maintaining relationships. At 20 years of age, he started having weekly 1-1 literacy sessions which saw him enrolling (and passing) year 11 VCE the following year. He then commenced an IT traineeship and progressed to Diploma level, finding help desk work.

2. As well as paid work in the field, Meg has completed pro bono work with young people, enabling them to gain tertiary entry into universities and TAFEs.

3. A new adult education co-ordinator was unable to cope with the amount and level of work she was given. She approached her committee of management for support. They employed Meg for an initial 3 hours to mentor their worker, with an understanding that their co-ordinator could call for up to a further 5 hours of assistance if and when required.

Organisations

1. A non-profit organisation was facing a large audit and wanted to review all processes and practices before the due date. A quotation of the expected time to prepare an internal review was negotiated. The work involved a day's work at the organisation where it became evident that documentation would obviously not pass an audit, and an additional 3 hours for writing the report. Meg presented the review to the Committee of Management who negotiated hours to develop appropriate class records, a Student manual and Disability Action Plan, to pass the audit.

2. A large educational institute required an educator and trainer with experience in higher education as well as TAFE courses, who also had experience working with very diverse students. This was for attendance at a working party and reference group, so was costed for being on call.

3. A government department wanted a manual written which would encourage staff to pathway students from language and literacy classes into a senior secondary certificate. Because the work was project-based, a cost was negotiated with timelines for the project to be completed within 6 weeks. The document was completed and presented before the final milestone.
